Some Art That Happened

Before winter break:

Ingrid Dearest

After winter break:

Ingrid finished

And let no man denounce me an unproducer.

I’ve been working on this particular drawing since Tokyo. It has traveled on at least two international flights, and lived in three different homes, not counting some brief stops in hotels, and the homes of certain parents who shall not be named.

All told, I’d been staring at it in all it’s half-finished glory for about 4 years. Note to future self: get that time management thing hacked before embarking on any further gratuitous acts of art. You have been warned.

The girl in question is a singer, who I am no longer all that into. Another one of the hazards of drawing on a geological time scale. However, she still has a pretty voice, and is still named Ingrid Michaelson, if you’re interested.

It is good. It is good enough. It is good.

  1. Adam, It’s not like you haven’t been busy these past few years. I’ll be interested in the next step. Well done!

  2. Wonder what the size of the drawing is?? The trim on the hood is beautifully rendered. Wish I could zoom in and see it in more detail.

  3. This is a fabulous drawing. The wonderful thing about a project spanning over time is when you look at different parts of it, you will remember what was happening in your life at that time as well, or who you were sitting beside on the flights, or the smells/smiles/tastes you experienced along the way. A sort of diary hidden in the image. Well done and kudos for keeping it up and finishing even though the relationship had changed. Looking forward to seeing more and hearing more about your adventures.

  4. Hi Adam, I’m on my way to Japan (well, maybe around the end of June with son Max and the Bob Mintzer Big Band for about 5 days performing in Tokyo — PLUS, Max wants me to travel to several folk potteries like Mashiko, and Shigaraki and Bizen (where I’m going to have pieces in a show around early July!!). I’ve applied for my passport, but that’s about all I really know right now (trying to figure out how to pay for things). Any thoughts or suggestions for this untraveled potter/saxophone player? I’ll have to get out my map and see where you are. – – – That’s about all for this brief note, except to say that you did a VERY nice drawing (keep up the good work!). I’ve enjoyed reading several of your writings; I’ll have to look up more. And no, I’m not playing with the band — pottery is really enough for now. Bye, Greg

  5. Very nice! I remember seeing one of your drawings on a computer at home before you left and was impressed. Hope you keep it up. Perhaps some island nature sketches next?

  6. Very Nice. Suzan would tell you to do two a day and you will get better and faster. I wish I would take her advice so I will refrain from saying anything beyond very nice. Love Michael
